Stripped Bass (Morone saxatilis)

 Habitat -Mainly inhabits inshore waters
-Migrates downstream in the spring and stays there for about 2-3 months
-Returns to freshwater around July or August
 Reproduction -Spawning always occurs in freshwater around May or June
-A 1.4 kg female deposits around 14,000 eggs, a 22.7 kg female about 3,220,000 eggs
-Hatching occurs in about 70-74 hours at 14.4-15.6°C and in about 48 hours at 17.8-19.4°C
 Growth -Stripped bass grow rather quickly
-At 2 years old, they average 22 cm, at 5 years old, 46 cm
-Matures between 4 and 6 years old

  • Fishway count at the cuseway totaled 5 fish in 1971 and 4 in 1972 (Ritter, J.A., 1991)
