-Periostracum*: shiny and grass-green, or modified with
yellow or brown, or simply brown all over
-Nacre**: silvery or white, tinged with blue or yellow,
and iridescent |
| Distribution |
-Lower St. Lawrence
River drainage and Maritime Provinces south in the Atlantic drainage
to the Gulf of Mexico drainage |
| Ecology |
-Ponds, lakes, and
streams of various widths down to small brooks
-Most abundant in mud but also occurs on sand and, less frequently,
on gravel |
