Brook Trout (Salvelinus fontinalis)

 Habitat -Lives in cool streams or lakes
-Migrartes downstream in the spring and stays there for about 2-3 months
 Reproduction -Spawning takes place in October and November
-A female can deposit 500-3,000 eggs, depending on her size
-The egg incubates over winter
-Hatching occurs in about 100 days at 5°C and in about 50 days at 10°C
 Growth -Brook trout has the shortest life span of all chars
-In the Maritime Provinces, they rarely live older than 5-6 years
-Growth rates depends on local conditions, such as food and oxygen supply and the size of the lake or stream
