Blueback Herring (Alosa aestivalis)

 Habitat -Lives most of his adult life at sea and only enters freshwater to spawn
-Generally stays in coastal water (les than 100 m in depth)
 Reproduction -Spawning begins in May
-A female can deposit from 45,000 to 350,000 eggs, depending on her size
-Incubation takes between 3 to 4 days
 Growth -At age 4, alewives average 23 cm in length and 165 g in weight; at 8 years of age, they mesure about 27 cm and weigh about 355 g
-Rarely live longer than 10 years
