INSPECTOR'S REPORT
MONDAY, AUGUST 12, 2002:
Excavation of sedimentary pond and removal of concrete ongoing.
A silt fence was installed this afternoon to protect against
run-off into the brook. Length of this section of silt fence
was 40 meters.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 13, 2002:
Continued work on removal of old dam. Concrete difficult
to break up. Also, started to re-shape access road to a
more suitable slope for trucks to haul earth out of the
site. Access road re-leveling expected to be done by Thursday.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14, 2002:
Access road rebuilding ongoing. First day of trucks hauling
from the site. Loads are estimated at 10 cubic meters per
load. Thirty-six (36) loads hauled out today.
Fish rescue was done this morning as diversion #1 was set
up in the brook. A total of approximately 170 fish were
moved. Diversion #1 in place.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 15,2002:
Access road finished today. Fish rescue found another 42
fish had worked their way back into the brook and were relocated.
Sixty-nine loads of earth were hauled out from the site.
Also, thirteen loads of sandstone were hauled into the site
to provide a stable base for equipment to work from.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 16, 2002:
Dam removal completed this morning. Twenty-six more loads
of earth removed from site. There were ten loads of shale
brought inyo the site. Diversion #2 was started using all
4 excavators to try to set up and protect against run-off
from expected rains on the weekend. Rip rap (8 loads) totaling
126.400 tonnes was brought in to help with diversion #2
work.
EXPECTED SCHEDULE:
Diversion #2 should be finished by Tuesday and the excavation
of silt should start this week and continue through to the
end of next week. 4000 cubic meters is expected to be removed
under the contract. [...] The access road may need to be
shaled to prevent softening in heavy rains. [...]
